Portable 9 Box Method – Social instrument that goes anywhere
The 9 Box Method is a portable social instrument and performance method created by Boulder, Colo. based controllerist Mark Mosher. It’s based around Ableton Live and the Percussa AudioCubes, and it’s intended purposes include social musical jams, music education and music therapy. As an interesting twist, Mark notes that the system so easy to use that it’s not limited to humans.
The system was inspired by Moldover’s Octamasher, the original intention being to create a similar system that could fit in a backpack, which it succeeds in doing. The 9 Box Method is lightweight, easy and quick to set up and has a learning curve of a couple of minutes, making social music experiments that much more accessible.
