Touch-Strips, The New “Spinning Platter”?
There has been a slew of Serato Itch controllers released in the last few years, but none of them has moved away from the “over-sized rotary encoder control paradigm” (aka “turntable”).
Enter TWITCH:
I had the opportunity to play a Twitch prototype at the NAMM show earlier this year. I gave Novation many props for the combination of high resolution touch-strips and LEDs that make for an intuitive, expressive and flexible interface. A lot of thought went into every element of the design, borrowing ideas from a variety of performance instruments, and re-thinking them in some uber creative ways.
I was also happy to learn that “scratching” is NOT something emulated by Twitch. As I understand it, this is an intentional move away from “make it do the old thing” and a nudge to help more DJs step into the rich realm of sonic manipulation that is controllerism.
When asked about their infringement of Night Rider trademarks, Novation declined to comment.
